“Happiness” by The Fray – lyrics

By Dan

Happiness
By Isaac Slade/The Fray

Happiness is just outside my window
Would it crash blowing 80-miles an hour?
Or is happiness a little more like knocking
On your door, and you just let it in?

Happiness feels a lot like sorrow
Let it be, you can’t make it come or go
But you are gone- not for good but for now
Gone for now feels a lot like gone for good

Happiness is a firecracker sitting on my headboard
Happiness was never mine to hold
Careful child, light the fuse and get away
‘Cause happiness throws a shower of sparks

Happiness damn near destroys you
Breaks your faith to pieces on the floor
So you tell yourself, that’s probably enough for now
Happiness has a violent roar

Happiness is like the old man told me
Look for it, but you’ll never find it all
But let it go, live your life and leave it
Then one day, wake up and she’ll be home
Home, home, home

Note: Isaac doesn’t sing verse 4 in every version you can find online. Perhaps it was a verse added later or just one that he plays depending on the night and the feel- its tough to get chronology by YouTube videos… Extra side note, at the show I attended January 26 in Clearwater, FL, the audience started clapping to the beat, and he said no one had ever done that for this song before- I know that’s useless trivia, but some fans are into weird stuff like that…

Peace, Dan

  11. Connor Says:

Does he possibly not sing verse four because it uses profanity? I know he is a Christian (along with the rest of The Fray), and maybe he doesn’t feel comfortable singing it? Just a thought…

  12. Dan Says:

    Connor,

I actually think now that it just wasn’t written in the earlier versions. All of the versions that appear to be from right before entering the studio have that verse. Also, the new vlog with Issac trying out a million guitars appears to be for this song. It is the “Happiness” progression that he is playing, and the sound of the acoustic would be especially important if they keep the feel they have in concert.

    Peace
    Dan

How come I’ve only heard this song now?
Well other than the fact that I’m from the ass-end of the world, sunny South Africa, but it is sure unfair.
Better late than never, I guess :)
